Heavy Equipment Operator

Position Summary 

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team at DEC. The Heavy Equipment Operator will be responsible for operating a variety of heavy machinery to assist with construction, excavation, and other heavy-duty tasks. The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, detail-oriented, and possesses a solid understanding of equipment operation and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • -Assist with the building earthwork component of a project
  • - Conduct pre-operation checks on equipment, including inspections of hydraulic and mechanical components, to ensure optimal performance.
  • - Follow safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations.
  • - Collaborate with supervisors and team members to determine project requirements and assist in planning workflows.
  • - Transport materials and equipment to designated areas on the job site.
  • - Perform routine maintenance on equipment and report any issues or repairs needed to a supervisor.
  • - Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance, and other pertinent information.
  • - Assist with site grading, trenching, and excavation tasks as needed.
  • - Ensure job sites are kept clean and organized.
  • - Participate in safety meetings and training sessions, continually improving safety practices and skill sets.

Requirements 

  • Must be in Local 49ers.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience
  • Experience in commercial and industrial excavation
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to read and comprehend grade stakes and/or site plans.
  • Safety awareness (OSHA, MMUTCD)
  • Punctuality and dependability is required.
  • Must posses a valid driver license and a clean driving record. 

Physical Requirements:

  • - Ability to lift heavy objects and work in various weather conditions.
  • - Prolonged periods of sitting and operating heavy equipment.
  • - Ability to bend, stoop, stand, and walk for extended periods.
